Day 01

Route : Airport > Colombo

Drive : 30 minute drive

Night spending city : Colombo

HIGHLIGHT

Arrival at the Bandaranaike International airport in Katunayeka where you will be welcomed by the tour driver / guide who will be accompanying you during your round trip and be transferred to your hotel in Colombo. Colombo is the commercial capital of Sri Lanka. While being one of the most heavily populated cities in Sri Lanka it also is a busy and vibrant place with a mixture of modern life and colonial buildings and ruins. Colombo harbor was a trade point in the Silk Road of the ancient world and is very famous among tourists for the many activities and sites it has to offer and many places where you can do shopping to your hearts content.

Day 02

Route : Colombo > Yala

Drive : 6 half hour drive

Night spending city : Yala

HIGHLIGHT

After breakfast leave for Yala and check in to your tented camp in the afternoon. Afterwards visit Yala national park for a jeep safari. Yala is located in the southeastern corner of the island. Its northern boundaries border the Lahugala elephant sanctuary and it has the added bonus of scenic ocean frontage. The terrain is a varied course of flat plains altering with rocky outcrops. The vegetation ranges from open parklands to dense jungles. Water holes, small lakes, lagoons and streams provide water for the innumerable inhabitants. There are 215 species of birds, 44 species of mammals, 47 species of reptiles, 18 species of amphibians and 21 species of fresh water fish in Yala national park and you will be able to see many of them roaming in their natural habitats.

Day 03

Route : Yala > Arugam Bay

Drive : 5 hour drive

Night spending city : Arugam Bay

HIGHLIGHT

After breakfast leave for Arugam Bay via Ella. You will be able to see many beautiful waterfalls during this journey including the famous waterfall the Rawana Ella. Check in to your hotel in the evening.

Day 04

Route : Arugam Bay

At leisure in Arugam Bay. Based on the south / east coast of the country Arugam Bay is the most popular surfing destination in Sri Lanka. While traditionally fishing has dominated the local economy, tourism has grown rapidly in the area in recent years due to the many tourists who visit Arugam Bay due to the number of quality surf breaks it provides for the surfers.

Day 05

Route : Arugam Bay > Trincomalee

Drive : 4 hour drive

Night spending city : Trincomalee

HIGHLIGHT

After breakfast leave for Trincomalee. Trincomalee is a major resort port city of Sri Lanka. With a recorded history of more than two and a half thousand years it is one of the oldest cities in Asia and is famous around the world for its deep water harbor which is one of the world’s finest natural harbors. While being a major maritime seaport in the international trading history in the ancient world it was also a target for all manner of attacks over the centuries.

Day 06

Route : Trincomalee

Drive : -

Night spending city : Trincomalee

HIGHLIGHT

At leisure in Trincomalee. Trincomalee has a lot of places with historical value scattered throughout it, Koneswaram temple being one of them is also the most famous amongst them all. Also known as the Temple of Thousand Pillars it is a beautiful medieval Hindu temple complex revered by the masses. Should you like , you can do a city tour and visit these places.

 

(Optional: You can go on a dolphin and whale watching excursion and also do snorkeling during one of these days)

Day 07

Route : Trincomalee > Polonnaruwa > Sigiriya

Drive : 2 half hour drive

Night spending city : Sigiriya

HIGHLIGHT

After breakfast leave for Sigiriya, en-route visit Polonnaruwa ancient city. You can do the tour of the ancient city while riding bicycles. The islands’ medieval capital rose to fame after the decline of the ancient kingdom of Anuradhapura. It was first declared the capital city by King Vijayabahu the first, in the year 1070 and is a gathering of several architectural marvels. The largest of its many reservoirs, Parakrama Samudra is larger than the Colombo harbor. The main attractions in Polonnaruwa are the remains of the Kings’ council chamber, the royal citadel, the Kumara pokuna, the royal pavilion and the Vatadage relic house (which is lavished with moonstones, guard stones and sculptured railings). Currently the ancient city of Polonnaruwa is declared by UNESCO as a world heritage site.. On completion leave for Sigiriya.

Day 08

Route : Sigiriya > Matale > Kandy

Drive : 3 hour drive

Night spending city : Kandy

HIGHLIGHT

After breakfast leave for Kandy, en-route visit the famous Lion’s Rock Fortress in Sigiriya. This rock fortress was a royal citadel for more than 18 years. In a sheltered cobra hooded cave approached by a spiral stairway are the famous frescos of Sigiriya. The summit of the rock with an area nearly of one hectare is the site of the old palace – the outer wall which was built on the very brink of the precipice. The UNESCO sponsored Central Cultural Fund has restored Sigiriyas’ 5th century water gardens to its former glory and it is a sight to behold. Check in to the hotel in the afternoon.

 

Kandy is an exciting place for shopping with souvenirs made of wood, copper, silver, brass, ebony, bronze then also there are Ceramics, lacquer work, handlooms, batiks, jewelry and rush and reed-ware can also be purchased. In the late afternoon you will do a city tour in Kandy where you’ll visit Sri Dalada Maligawa also known as the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic The main attraction -of Kandy. It is a Buddhist temple in the city of Kandy and is located in the royal palace complex of the former Kingdom of Kandy, which houses the relic of the tooth of Buddha. A place revered by countless number of people around the world.

Day 09

Route : Kandy > Kithulgala > Negombo

Drive : 6 hour drive

Night spending city : Negombo

HIGHLIGHT

After an early breakfast leave for Negombo, en-route visit Kitulgala where an exciting adventure awaits you. Experience white water rafting in the picturesque Kelani River in Kithulagala, covering 5 major rapids and 4 minor rapids. Should you crave for more adventure, you can also partake in activities such as White water Kayaking and Zip Line adventure activities. On completion proceed to Negombo and check in to your hotel late in the evening.

Day 10

Route : Negombo > Airport

Drive : 30 minute drive

Night spending city : -
